The painting is based on an imagined landscape whose shaping is influenced by memories of the Rhône valley around Montélimar. It is not a record of the place, but its inner trace. The landscape is broken into cubist planes that assemble space according to memory rather than reality. Mountains, a reservoir and a hint of human presence function as signs, not as description.
