In the painting "Following the Red" we watch more than just a mountain trail. The author calms our gaze, slows the pace and places us in the position of a pilgrim — both physical and inner. The hiking trail marker, a symbol of a human-set direction, stands here in contrast to the silent presence of the cows and the open landscape. Where are we heading if we don't know where we are? The painting becomes a meditation on presence, orientation and the human inscription into the landscape.
