Norma beneath Marilyn works with the difference between the public icon and the person who remained hidden beneath her. The painting does not stem from a portrait as a celebration of a famous face, but from the tension between what the world sees and what remains beneath the surface. The gold and silver layers refer to gloss, projection and the construction of the female image. The pink-purple interventions in the face disrupt this illusion and open space for a more vulnerable, bodily and less controlled layer. A layer where the image of the celebrity disintegrates and where something quiet remains beneath it
