As a little girl I carried a shard of a blue ashtray in my pocket. I looked at the world through it. I carried it everywhere and it tore my sweatpants, for which my mother always scolded me, but she would mend the pocket. I no longer remember how many times she sewed that pocket, but I know that piece of glass spent its childhood with me in the heart of industrial Ostrava.
