Aleš Pudil (born May 1, 1961, in Mladá Boleslav) has been involved in the visual arts since childhood. He studied for nine years at the People’s School of Art, where he began his studies under the academic painter Jaroslav Mašek and later continued under the academic painter Stanislav Kovář.

Despite his great talent, family circumstances prevented him from pursuing higher education in the visual arts. At his parents’ request, he therefore enrolled in a construction school in Mělník. It was there, however, that his artistic development was significantly influenced by architect and educator Jaroslav Webr, who taught technical drawing and architecture. The artist thus continued to develop his work primarily as a self-taught artist.

In 1984, he purchased a medieval house on Old Town Square in Mladá Boleslav, which he gradually renovated. After seven years of working at the regional design institute, during the period of social change following the fall of the communist regime, he left his job and began to devote himself entirely to his own painting.

His work focuses primarily on classical oil painting using the alla prima technique and on the development of optical-geometric abstraction. In his paintings, he combines precise composition, color harmony, and a sense of space. Gradually, his work evolved from strict conceptual abstraction toward a distinctive minimalist style.

Aleš Pudil has participated in more than 25 solo and 35 group exhibitions. Notable projects include his participation in the Prague Biennale 1 at the Trade Fair Palace, organized in curatorial collaboration with theorist and artist Jiří Valoch.

His works are now represented, among other places, in the collections of the National Gallery in Prague.

In addition to painting, the artist has long been interested in contemporary architecture, design, and the way in which a work of art functions within an interior. He actively seeks collaborations with architects and focuses on creating paintings that can naturally interact with modern spaces.
