Andy Warhol (6 August 1928 Pittsburgh — 22 February 1987 New York) was an American painter, graphic artist, filmmaker and leading figure of pop-art. He began his career as an illustrator of advertising items. Later he became known worldwide as a painter, director of avant-garde films and manager of the rock group The Velvet Underground.
