The Prague painter Jan Arksom started painting relatively recently, yet his work has already earned him several accolades. His abstract works are straightforward. He tries to be as concise as possible and looks for connections that are invisible at first sight. Arksom's work is mainly inspired by the beauty of nature, landscape or the human body. He often draws on reality, but consistently abstracts it. As he says: "Actually, with a big brush you try to paint small things. It doesn't work, and that's the nice thing about it." What interests him most in his work is achieving harmonious, if often unusual, combinations of acrylic colors. The paint, which is often applied to the canvases in thick layers, is the foundation of the painting. Each layer has its precise place. It has a pure style, with virtually no mixing of colours with each other. It is the rich colours, the choice of motifs and the specific handwriting that make his paintings clearly recognisable.
