Jiří Karásek

Designer, painter, sculptor and musician. I have been painting and designing all my life. I studied graphic design at SUŠG Jihlava and since then I have been painting, graphic and product design. I especially focus on glass. Cooperation with several leading manufacturers of interior glass gave me the opportunity to penetrate into the beauty and purity of this material, which over time became another means of expression of my work. My glass objects, composed largely from post-production waste, thus take on a new character and a new story. After some time I started to experiment with other materials such as wood, metal or concrete. In my paintings, the urgency of our time appears in contrast with mythology, ecology and the issues of modern progress. I work with many techniques and processes, but classical oil painting is closest to my heart. My subjects combine ancient pagan scenes, but also a fantastic or even sci-fi conception of the world I penetrate in my work. For me, creating art is a very natural sense of life. I work on my pieces with the aim of leaving a legacy in these hectic times that everyone can pause and merge with the artwork for a while, forgetting the everyday greyness.
