roman turcel(1974) - painter, designer, galleristBorn in May 1974 in Bojnice, Czechoslovakia. He has been making art using a wide range of techniques and their combinations since he was eighteen years old. He has worked professionally as a graphic designer and gallerist. He currently lives and works in Holešovice, Prague.Roman Turcel's artistic work is determined by a strong need to provoke reflection and ask questions. To express it, he uses an original arsenal of his typical artistic morphology.His paintings are dominated by the representation of the human body, ESPECIALLY the hand, as its most cultivated carrier. At the same time, it is a kind of philosophical development of Michelangelo's theme of the divine hand extended to Adam, whose touch is saving and healing. The softness and languor of the painter's rendering of the human body, acknowledging the often natural ground, the heaviness and certain tenderness of the figures present on the canvas, in turn El Greco's work. In recent years, Roman Turcel has devoted himself to philosophically coherent, non-commercial projects. For example, in the project Let's Shake Hands, he assigned the titles and contents of the works to well-known world citizens, whom he approached to inscribe their legacy in his paintings with their own hands. So far, this has been done by the singer Sting, the director Miloš Forman, the singer Peter Dvorský and the Tibetan spiritual and secular leader Dalai Lama.
