Dominika Vyskočilová's work has long been permeated with references to the aesthetics characteristic of the nineties, which took shape mainly in the environment of the Internet. Dominika does not examine the visual language in question through the lens of a critique of mass culture as one of the products of late capitalism. On the contrary, she perceives the degraded, deformed visuality as a democratizing phenomenon with many positive aspects. It can form imaginary bridges between different cultures, ethnicities, sexual orientations, worldviews and religions. Through a detailed study of banal language, often bordering on kitsch, the author obsessively uncovers individual symbols and elements, which she visually directs or directly paraphrases through quotations and then incorporates into new contexts. The author focuses analytically on the study of the proportions of animated figures and toys - she observes head-to-body ratios, facial spacing and colouring in the context of colour theory and then creates her own series of figures. Animals - horses, cats, rabbits, dogs and teddy bears often bear anthropomorphic shapes and become personal patrons or modern deities. In studying the pop culture aesthetics of the period, Dominika encountered the essential role of subcultures whose values and norms can be intertwined with mass culture. Currently, she is most influenced by Pastel Goth, a style that took shape on internet platforms such as VK.com and Tumblr, which combines dark elements of goth or grunge with the pastel aesthetic of Kawaii cuteness. It is this ambivalence of Pastel Goth, consisting in the contrasting use of dark and pastel colours, that for Dominika becomes a metaphor for children trapped in adult bodies. Dominika Vyskočilová (*1999) studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague in the studio of painting III with Josef Bolf, Jakub Hošek and Nik Timková. She focuses primarily on figurative painting, which often evolves into object work and complex spatial installations. In his contemporary work, he deals with themes such as manipulation, social relations in the digital dimension and the psychological influence of kitsch and declined aesthetics on the instinctive perception of man.
