Many years ago, a young man in the Vysočina region was forever short of money. In his home village he tried paying with his paintings. Most people laughed at him. But the innkeeper poured him beer in exchange, and the railway dispatcher would occasionally take a little picture in return for a ticket to Prague.
Their heirs are wealthy people today. Because that young man's name was Jan Zrzavý.
Investing in emerging artists carries a risk, because not every one of them will grow into another Zrzavý. Generally speaking, though, three things hold true. First, the price of most works of art rises over time – sometimes a little, sometimes dizzyingly. Second, your investment supports a creative person. A person whose work you like – otherwise you wouldn't have chosen it. Third, a painting or sculpture is an expression of your taste, your personal style. A reproduction of van Gogh's Sunflowers on your wall won't impress anyone any more.

The aim of the project.
The aim of Original Gallery is to stir up the market for art by emerging, independent and lesser-known artists.
To shift the way we all think about what we surround ourselves with, the environment we live in and what it actually says about us. So that at home we would rather surround ourselves with originals that speak to us, that carry their own energy and power, instead of copies of paintings and photographs from big-box stores that we might just as well come across in our friends' flats. The uniqueness of the originals in our flats and houses shapes our personality and the environment we live in.

This website came into being thanks to my painting. When I began creating pictures years ago, they simply hung around my flat; I showed them to family and friends, gave many away as gifts and later even sold some. I became interested in presenting my art, my passion, and discovered that putting on an exhibition these days is a very costly affair. And so an idea was born in my eternally dreamy head. To create a simple online gallery for emerging and unknown artists who create but have neither the opportunity nor the funds to present their works. Everyone knows the famous ones, such as Jan Zrzavý, but about those no one has heard of yet, it is hard to find anything at all. And yet many of them may be even better than the aforementioned Jan Zrzavý. I would like to give emerging artists the chance to create their own virtual gallery and exhibit their paintings, sculptures and other original works. To let them show, in a simple way, who they are and what they can do. With the help of friends we created the web environment originalgallery.com, where every artist can exhibit their works or offer them for sale.
I believe Original Gallery will bring you as much joy as it brings me.
