Marie Baboučková

I am a contemporary Czech self-taught painter, born and living in České Budějovice. I have not been painting most of my life, because many of my interests took me in other directions, such as beekeeping. In 2018 a life event, an accident, led me to self-study painting. I started with acrylic paints, but oil paints revolutionized my artwork. I have taken several oil painting courses of which the Czech academic painter Jiří Houska has the biggest contribution to my work. Initially the styles that had the biggest influence on me were Cubism, Surrealism and Realism, but I am not afraid to try new styles and often combine them. Emotions, dreams, fantasies and respect for certain phases of history, are for me a palette of colours that allows me to transfer indescribable moments of energy, movement and passion into my art. Despite the problems of today, I am an eternal optimist, which I hope is reflected in my paintings. Lately, I have been exploring different styles to create the most original works that will appeal and inspire those who encounter them. I create my painting designs mostly on a graphics tablet, sometimes in virtual reality. I am proud that I was probably the first in the Czech Republic to hold an exhibition in virtual reality, which opened up new possibilities for presenting my work.
