Marie Baboučková

I am a contemporary Czech painter and self-taught artist. For most of my life, I did not devote myself to painting, as my many interests led me in other directions, such as beekeeping. In 2018, a life-changing event—an accident—led me to study painting on my own. I started with acrylics, but oil paints revolutionized my artistic practice. I’ve taken several oil painting courses, and the Czech academic painter Jiří Houska has had the greatest influence on my work. At first, I was most influenced by Cubism, Surrealism, and Realism, but I’m open to trying new styles and often combine them. Emotions, dreams, imagination, and a respect for certain periods of history serve as my palette, allowing me to convey indescribable moments of energy, movement, and passion through my art. Despite the challenges of today’s world, I am an eternal optimist, which I hope is reflected in my paintings. Lately, I have been exploring various styles so that I can create works that are as original as possible—works that will resonate with and inspire those who encounter them.
