I lived in Malta for three months. I grew very fond of the city of Sliema, which offered a view of Valletta. Two days before our flight, my friends and I went to a rocky beach and looked out at the horizon. We did not go swimming, it was November and quite cold. But on the surface of the water a sailing lesson was just taking place (or something like that). The little boats circled around, trying to stay afloat, sometimes capsizing, sometimes sailing quite crookedly. You could not take your eyes off them. It occurred to me that they looked exactly like butterflies.
