"Madonna of the Suicides" is a darkly poetic oil painting full of contrast and symbols. A pregnant woman in a pale blue dress sits on an old red armchair in a dim room beneath a starry sky. Above her head she wears a halo like a moon, in her hand a candle that casts a warm light on her profile and belly.
