Bedřich Čermák

(* 1944 in Dolní Chabry).. In 1963, he graduated with a degree in advertising design from the Secondary School of Fine Arts in Prague—“Hollarka.” His first exhibition of paintings was organized in the 1960s in Litvínov by cultural journalist Mirek Kovářík. In the second half of the 1960s, Bedřich Čermák devoted himself intensively to his art. He was accepted to FAMU, but did not enroll due to the events of 1968. Over the following years, he lived in several different places and held a variety of jobs, including advertising artist, forest worker, camera assistant, unskilled mason, security guard, and teacher.
From 1991 to 1996, he studied art therapy at the Faculty of Education of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice and then studied special education at J. A. Komenský University. From 1996 to 2020, he worked as an art therapist and psychotherapist with people struggling with substance abuse in České Budějovice and Český Krumlov. His primary workplace was the Červený Dvůr Psychiatric Hospital. In addition to his varied professional pursuits, he has always devoted himself to the visual arts, particularly painting and collage.
His work shows strong influences of Surrealism. He has exhibited his paintings in Litvínov, Prague, Kolín, České Budějovice, Tábor, and Český Krumlov. His works are included in private collections in the Czech Republic, Austria, Germany, and Norway.
