Jiří Skala

Jiří Skala, DiS. Restorer, painter, and gilder. He studied at the Secondary School of Applied Arts in Prague, majoring in Applied Painting. He continued his studies at the Higher Vocational School of Restoration in Brno, specializing in the restoration and conservation of painting and decorative techniques. In 2015, he completed his apprenticeship as an artistic gilder. In his own work, he focuses on realistic landscape painting. His influences include 19th-century landscape painting, such as the works of Alois Bubák, Adolf Kosárek, and Julius Mařák.  In my work, I prepare the canvases myself—from stretching the raw canvas to priming and applying an emulsion gesso according to traditional recipes. I do not use industrially primed and stretched canvases.
