All my realistic paintings are created using the technique of the old masters, who worked with several layers of oil paint and glazes. I like to paint simple still lifes and apply the principles of minimalism – an artistic movement born in the late 1950s as a reaction to abstract expressionism – to realistic painting. I call this approach "minimalism in realism". Every object in my still lifes carries a symbolic and philosophical meaning.
