Description

“Lemon Light” from the “Italian Diary” series.

White sails, a turquoise sea, and striking yellow accents. The yellow line evokes a sunbeam or a trace of the lemon-yellow hue typical of the Italian coast.

“Italian Diary” is a series of summer painting studies created during the artist’s stay in Italy. They are a personal record of moments when the sea, sun, wind, and the characteristic atmosphere of the Italian coast come together.

Her inspiration came primarily from the sea, the changing light, sailboats, lemons, and the intense colors of the Mediterranean landscape.

The artist captures not only specific motifs but, above all, their mood and her own experience—the moment when the image of reality begins to dissolve into color, light, and memory.

The uniqueness of the series also lies in the way it was created. The studies were painted directly on the beach, in immediate contact with the landscape, rather than in a studio. Seawater was also used during the creative process, thus becoming a direct part of the individual works and symbolically imbuing them with the actual place of their creation.

The paintings are executed on natural canvas, whose texture and natural hue remain intentionally exposed in some areas.

These exposed areas are not a sign of incompleteness—on the contrary, they emphasize the character of painterly studies created directly in nature, where the image is not separated from its surroundings. The natural canvas becomes another layer of expression, evoking sand, stone, a sun-warmed landscape, and the rawness of the moment.

“Italian Diary” is thus not a traditional pictorial record of the Italian coast. It is a visual diary of feelings, fragments of summer, the sea, and light captured right where they were created. Each sketch carries not only an image of Italy but also a trace of a specific moment, landscape, and the sea.
