Description
She kneels down by the water’s edge. The little boat is already floating.
Her fingers still cling to it. Ripples spread from the bow. The lighthouse in the fog is merely a direction, not a destination. Nothing here says goodbye aloud. She lets go.
From a distance, a violet figure against a light-colored wall.
Up close, the fold of her dress, a glint on the water, the paper edge of the little boat.
Into the bedroom and living room. Toward the white plaster and linen. Silence can carry it away. The hall cannot.
Original.
