Description

This isn’t a folk costume from a postcard.

The body is composed of planes, as if the myth and the court record could not be fused into a single face. Juraj Jánošík: a bandit from Tomáš Uhorčík’s band, executed in 1713 in Liptovský Mikuláš, and at the same time the one whom the people allowed to take from the rich. The painting does not resolve the dispute. It leaves it hanging in color.

From a distance, a stained-glass window on the wall, the sun in the upper left.

Up close, impastoed areas, a black line, a figure composed of fragments.

For the living room and entryway. It can hold its own in a striking interior. Next to understated furniture, it takes over the entire wall.
