Its stars shine. Planets orbit. Cities grow, governments make decisions, and billions of beings wake up every morning convinced that their future has not yet been determined.
They are mistaken.
The painting depicts the galaxy after its takeover by the Unified—a civilization so advanced that it no longer needs to occupy planets or destroy fleets. It does not control territory. It controls the relationships between cause and effect.
The dark vortex in the upper left corner represents the node of collective will. From there, curved currents radiate out into space, permeating the entire galaxy. The bright, almost geometric lines are not ship trajectories. They are possibilities for the future that have been gradually straightened into a single permitted direction.
Elections, disputes, and revolutions continue to unfold on individual planets. Yet every decision ultimately leads to the same outcome.
The inhabitants may choose among thousands of paths, but all have been bent in advance toward a single goal.
The Unified call this peace.
They claim that plurality does not lead to prosperity, but only postpones the inevitable war. That is why they eliminate differences before they can turn into conflict.
When the image is projected before the Council of Material Gods, Veyr presents it as proof of a perfectly stabilized galaxy.
Nara, however, sees something else in it.
She sees worlds that were not destroyed, but lost the chance to become something unforeseen. She sees civilizations whose inhabitants are still alive, but whose future no longer belongs to them.
The galaxy was saved from chaos.
It was managed to perfection.
And at that very moment, management turned into ownership.
The galaxy still existed. But it was no longer free.
