Description

For millions of years, galaxies were islands.

Civilizations were able to traverse the distances between stars, but the void between galaxies remained a boundary that almost no one ventured beyond.

Then, intergalactic routes were discovered.

This image depicts one of the first maps of this network. The spiral shapes represent galaxies, each containing billions of stars, planets, and their own civilizations. The golden lines between them are not ship trajectories. They mark places where the geometry of spacetime can be warped to such an extent that the distance between two galaxies nearly vanishes for a brief moment.

The network gradually transformed the known universe.

For the first time, civilizations separated by millions of light-years began trading with one another. New technologies, new life forms, and the first reports of worlds built from entirely different matter began to emerge.

But with every newly opened path came the possibility that someone whom no one had invited might one day come along it.

When the War of the Worlds began, the very network that was meant to connect civilizations allowed the war to spread faster than anyone had anticipated.

And one of the golden paths on this map led even further.
