This painting is a free paraphrase of one of the most famous nudes in modern art – Modigliani's "Female Nude on a White Pillow." The author, however, borrows only the underlying form and gestures of the body, while the coloration and painterly gesture are entirely contemporary. The result is a portrait of intimacy that is not idealized – it is calm, earthy, and physical. The figure becomes body, body becomes color, and color becomes silence.
