When I painted Bonanza, I wanted to capture that fascinating moment of discovery, that dream of finding hidden riches. But I was not aiming for a realistic depiction of a gold vein, rather to evoke a feeling, an atmosphere and a mystery. I used metallic colors to create a texture and light that would recall the gleam of precious metals and stones.
