Description
Peonies in a Glass. Realism, floral tones against a brown background, oil on canvas, 60 × 60 cm
The peonies stand in a glass—nothing more. The brown background lets them stand out, while the water and glass hold the stems in place. This realistic painting captures both the volume of the flower and the simplicity with which a bouquet is brought in from the kitchen. Peonies in a Glass is a still life about fragility that cannot be staged. The viewer is meant to sense the scent, the weight of the petals, and the silence of the table.
