As a child, I loved painting and drawing, and even though my first steps in choosing a career led me in that direction, fate had other plans. Now I work as a psychologist. My journey toward painting began when I learned to create technically skilled works—realistic drawings, especially of human faces. What we see in people. But as I began working with people and their emotions and feelings, I discovered that colors, shapes, and materials would emerge on their own, revealing more about them to me. Looking at a face became a glimpse into their inner world. At first, I didn’t pay much attention to it. I just assumed that whenever someone opened up to me, colors and shapes would pop up in the space around them. I thought it was some kind of synesthesia. Maybe that’s what it is… Actually, to this day, I don’t know what it is. But it helps me understand the experiences of others. To this day, I vividly remember how I myself felt like a figure encased in gray skin, and when I unzipped that skin, the inside was bursting with colors—colors I hadn’t expressed until then. I tried to capture that feeling on canvas, and that’s how my first painting—one that wasn’t a realistic drawing—came to be. I was afraid to show my paintings to anyone because I was afraid of being judged. I was afraid that suddenly these paintings wouldn’t be good enough—certainly not as good as the realistic ones. But then I realized it didn’t matter. Everyone is a certain way on the inside—somehow colorful, sometimes empty, sometimes just black and white, other times gray or cold, torn, or radiant—and none of that is right or wrong. Just as how we feel inside changes, so too do the colors, movement, texture, and shapes within each of us... People are my greatest inspiration, but only when they open up. I don’t see those colors in everyone all the time. But when I do see them, I try to transfer them onto the canvas. They aren’t meant to be beautiful; they’re just meant to capture human experiences over time. However, I don’t have any paintings on my walls at home; I need white walls so they can serve as a projection screen for me. But I’m sorry that most of my paintings end up stored in the garage. That’s why I decided to put them on display here, in this gallery.
