Dear readers,
the Alla prima technique is my absolute favourite mylby technique. Why? Because it's fast, explosive, full of momentary emotion and doesn't wait for lengthy brush strokes or any other tool you just use to create the piece. I love it because the painting is painted from start to finish in one go, no repainting or touch-ups. Either I get it right and the outpouring of passion associated with the painting shows its beauty, or it just ... Well, let's leave the written word now and read a little about this technique.
The Alla prima technique is a painting technique that has been used for centuries and is still popular among artists today. The term "alla prima" is Italian for "on the first try" or "all at once" and describes that style of painting where you, as the artist, complete the entire painting in one sitting. This technique was discovered and used during the development of oil painting, and several important artists have used it on parts of their paintings. Some of the first were the well-known Diego Velázquez, the impressionist Claude Monet and the highly acclaimed Vincent van Gogh. The Alla prima technique is characterized by its spontaneity and dynamic style, which creates that delicious feeling of freedom in the artist.
One of the great advantages of using the Alla prima technique is its speed. Since you complete the entire painting in one sitting, it is a quick and efficient way to create a work of art. Moreover, this technique allows you to capture the essence of the subject in a fresh and immediate way, without overthinking or reworking the painting. The direct approach of the Alla Prima technique involves painting the correct color directly onto the canvas or painted surface being worked on while the paint is still wet. This approach can lead to a more vibrant and expressive painting.
To use the Alla prima technique effectively, there are several techniques and tips you can follow. One of the most important techniques is to work quickly and confidently, without overthinking or over-detailed painting. Another tip is to use a limited color palette, which can help create a cohesive and harmonious painting. In addition, you can use various tools and techniques, such as blending and smudging, to create texture and depth in your paintings. While the Alla prima technique can be challenging, it is a rewarding and exciting way to create a work of art full of emotion.
What to add. I wish you artists as much freedom as possible, because that is the most important thing we have. You can express anything with art and in any way. It's up to you, and if it satisfies you or irritates you, you are on the right track to create an original work of art.
Thank you for your attention and look forward to the next time.
