Born in 1964, Andrea Benetti conceived and drafted the "Manifesto of Neo-Rupestrian Art" presented at the 53rd Venice Biennale, in the "Nature and Dream" pavilion located at Ca' Foscari University. Conceptually, the Manifesto is inspired by the genesis of cave painting. In his works, Andrea Benetti cites, transfigures, plays, and reinvents concepts and forms of Grotto painting, creating an ideal bridge between the genesis of the Grotto and its contemporaneity. He has collaborated and still collaborates on projects with several Italian and foreign universities, including John Hopkins University, the Universities of Bologna, Ferrara, Roma Tre, Lecce, Bergamo, and Bari. Benetti's works can be found in collections all over the world. In addition to contemporary museums in Italy and abroad and prestigious private collections, including that of the United Nations, his works can be found at the Quirinale (seat of the Presidency of the Italian Republic), the Italian Parliament, the Vatican, and various embassies. For this reason, he was received at the Quirinale (seat of the Presidency of the Italian Republic), the Chamber of Deputies (Italian Parliament) and at the Vatican, where he met Pope Benedict XVI and Pope Francis.
There are dozens of university professors and important critics who have written about Benetti and participated in the projects that the Italian painter has done. In 2020, Benetti received the 49th "Neptune of Gold" Award, the longest-running and most prestigious annual isic award in the city of Bologna.
