A strange little creature sits quietly beneath the trees, trapped somewhere between life and death. *Frankenweenie* is a darkly fantastical interpretation of Sparky, the unforgettable dog from Tim Burton’s gothic stop-motion universe. With its exaggerated expressions, stitched-together body, subdued monochromatic atmosphere, and flashes of warm colors, the film explores the strange territory between tenderness and the macabre. Rather than portraying horror as something terrifying, the film finds in it something vulnerable and almost innocent.
