Description

A mixed-media technique featuring pronounced impasto layers, incisions into the paint, and dynamic, gestural brushstrokes. For most beings, the future exists only when it arrives.

For her, all futures existed simultaneously.

The painting depicts a being from a civilization whose consciousness does not perceive time as a straight line. Two light structures resembling eyes do not observe the same reality. One gazes into the world that currently exists. The other observes the possibilities of what may yet happen.

The intertwined blue, green, and purple strokes represent thousands of causal paths that constantly branch out, intersect, and vanish before her.

When the heroes find her, they want to know just one answer:

How will the War of the Universes end?

The being remains silent for a long time.

She has seen victory. She has seen defeat. She has seen universes that survived, and those that never came to be. In some futures, the heroes were saviors. In others, it was their very decisions that triggered the catastrophe they were trying to prevent.

In the end, it won’t tell them which future is the right one.

It will only say:

“The future you seek does not yet exist.”

And then, for the first time, both of its eyes look in the same direction.

At one of the heroes.
