Then it changed direction.

The painting depicts Nára, a cosmic leviathan whose body is so vast and complex that the first explorers could not distinguish it from the cosmic landscape. The red, orange, and white streams represent its sensory fibers, neural pathways, and external structures through which it perceives the gravitational fields of stars. The green and blue layers conceal deeper oceans of tissue, ecosystems, and cavities inhabited by entire civilizations.

Cities have sprung up inside Nára.

For generations, their inhabitants considered themselves separate nations living in their own world. Some were its natural symbionts; others fed on its energy; and still others, once parasites, gradually became protectors of the shared body.

For a long time, Nár knew nothing of them.

Just as a person does not perceive every life within their own blood, Nár had no idea that languages, families, disputes, and wars were emerging within it.

When the ship Answer enters its body, the heroes initially search for a planet. Only later do they realize that they did not arrive somewhere.

They entered someone.

At the decisive moment of the war, individual cities speak separately. The host, the symbionts, and the former parasites each express their own consent or refusal.

Nár responds last. His decision takes three lunar cycles, because a being that carries entire worlds within itself must not speak until he has heard them all.

Then the red currents of his body reverse.

For the first time, an unknown object on the map remained stationary.

A living world had made its decision.
