Description
For many hundreds of years, lighthouses were of great importance for maritime navigation and often became salvation for crews of storm-weary ships returning home or sailing into a foreign port. With the development of modern technologies, including maritime navigation, optical lighthouses no longer play such an important role and are giving way to radio beacons and satellite systems. Yet they still stand like time-tested sea wolves and blink at night on the shores of seas and bays.
