Description
A collage on a wooden panel with an original underpainting. The fragments and organic shapes are first painted with acrylics and then finished with pastels; the background is black, white, or bronze. The composition takes shape as the pieces are glued together; chance plays a part in the final result. The painting is titled *Elektra*. In Greek, the name means “amber” or “shining.” In ancient tragedies, Electra is the daughter of Agamemnon, king of Mycenae. After his death, she refuses to forget him and becomes the guardian of his memory. The red and coral-colored collage alludes to this tension, not to a literal depiction.
