Description

A collage on a wooden panel with an original underpainting. The fragments and organic shapes are first painted with acrylics and then finished with pastels; the background is black, white, or bronze. The composition takes shape as the pieces are glued together; chance plays a part in the final result. The painting is titled Lilith. In apocryphal texts and Jewish mysticism, she is the first woman, created from the same clay as Adam. She refuses to be subjugated and leaves the garden. The dark structure surrounding the more colorful mosaic refers to this independence, not to the literal figure.
