Description

A collage on a wooden panel with an original underpainting. The fragments and organic shapes are first painted with acrylics and then finished with pastels; the background is black, white, or bronze. The composition takes shape as the pieces are glued together; chance plays a part in determining the final result. The painting is titled *Penelope*. In *The Odyssey*, she waits twenty years for Odysseus’s return and fends off her suitors by weaving a shroud by day and unraveling it by night. The dark mosaic with flashes of light alludes to this waiting and transformation, not to a literal depiction.
