Buying an original work of art can serve as an initial step in the process of renovating or enriching an interior, but it can also serve as a starting point for building a collection. However, one does not negate the other - the desire to acquire a unique piece of art is key. Where to go "art hunting", what resources to have and what to consider in such a delicate matter? Today I will describe how to choose and buy an original work that will please the owner for many years, quite possibly for the rest of his life.
So the decision has been made. You want to buy a painting, a sculpture or some sculpture! Or several paintings or a painting and some sculptures. Now consider where you are going to put them, put some work into it and try to imagine how it will look in this or that place you have chosen. Don't underestimate it, it is important.
Next, it's good to keep in mind what the purpose of the purchase is. What this purchase will mean to you. Will it be as a gift for yourself or for someone close to you? A radical change to the interior of your home or office? How much money are you willing to spend on this purchase? Will the original be for aesthetic pleasure or a long-term investment? Your next steps will depend on how honestly you answer these questions.
The selection criteria may be different. You need the original piece "for yourself, love", for now. Or for resale, but not without keeping in mind that a work of art can also be a "valuable store of cash", an investment. How to choose a work of art, what is important? Let's answer the question. Why do people buy original works of art? It's simple. You like the original. It touches your nerves, feelings and evokes positive emotions every time you look at it. For many, the most important criterion is "I like it" or the exact opposite of "I don't like it" and is thus the deciding factor in choosing that piece. From my point of view, that's right! If something about a piece of art bothers you or you don't have the right impression of it, you probably won't get rid of it.
So the first thing to do is to take the time to look at the work carefully, slowly assess it from different angles, and listen to your inner voice. If something confuses you, it's worth looking at other works, perhaps by the same artist, if you're intrigued by their particular work, and the author's work in general. You don't have to "follow the trend" and clearly distinguish the position in which you are evaluating the work. Even the best expert will not advise you as you advise yourself.
