(1/2) The thought occurred to me as I was walking up the hill. I stood there before I was supposed to leave. I like to say that this place is my place. It’s not that I want to claim this part of nature as my own, but the thought that a place I relate to as I would a person might one day be defiled terrifies me. I grew up here and changed. How many other people felt the same way? How many eyes have gazed up at the treetops? And how many noses have sniffed the leaves of a bush? And how many people have chatted while out for a walk? Something tells me that the earth remembers every step. Maybe the trees do hear my cries or laughter after all…
