However, energy escapes through only one.

The faint glow of its engines shows that it is still moving, but the crew cannot use full power. Too abrupt a change in speed in this unstable gravitational field could pull the ship toward one of the black holes.

And then the sensors detect movement in the lower left corner.

A huge gray creature emerges from the darkness.

It resembles a cuttlefish, but its tentacles are tens of kilometers long, and its body moves through the gravitational currents as naturally as a marine creature drifts with the ocean.

For it, the black hole cluster poses no danger.

It is its hunting ground.

For a few moments, the ship finds itself caught between two forces it does not understand: ahead of it, a structure capable of devouring entire star systems, and below it, a living creature that has learned to survive in its vicinity.

The crew expects an attack.

But it never comes.

The monster slowly drags one of its tentacles around the ship and continues toward the balloon.

It is only much later that the heroes realize what they have just witnessed.

It did not come to hunt them.

It came to feed on the black hole.
