Description
It has already been mentioned that I create art inspired by places no one would want to visit. Unfortunately, we are forced to visit certain places again and again, even though we know how dark they are. I have never been able to understand—and it never ceases to sadden me—that my entire life I have been subject to the false hope that a mother’s love is unconditional. In an attempt to come to terms with my own imperfection, gripped by a sense of guilt, I subconsciously incorporated poppies into this painting. To me, they are an age-old symbol of sleep and oblivion, as well as a healing poison that can even kill. It is not just a painting; it is a symbol of abandonment, amidst apparent beauty. I tried to cultivate a garden of love in soil that was poisoned. Just as I spontaneously draw circles, this work, *Amatra*, came into being with the same spontaneity; the motherless figure and the poppies lent it the hallmark of authenticity to my assumptions—which are now truths.
