Město tisíců komínů (The City of a Thousand Chimneys)
Select Frame
Description
Chimneys are counted, but not added up.
They stand in the fog; from below, the city dissolves into a coat of paint. Up above, the vertical lines still hold. A thousand is an exaggeration. A row that doesn’t end at the edge of the canvas is enough.
From a distance, a brownish-gray wall with dark lines.
Up close, impasto brushstrokes, drips, the spot where a chimney vanishes into the steam. Into the living room and study. Toward wood and concrete. It’s warmer next to the Steelworks—umbra against pure gray.
