THE SILENT FLAME.
THE STORY OF THE PAINTER TANJA FROST.
Tanja Frost has been painting for as long as she can remember. She says she doesn’t recall when she started—as if drawing were as natural as breathing. Yet there were times in her life when she stepped away from her art to meet the expectations of those around her. But drawing remained within her, like a quiet flame that never went out. Today, she creates not just paintings, but stories—sometimes her own, other times those she has experienced through others. The colors in her hands both whisper and scream; painting becomes a way for her to be more herself. Her art fills in the gaps that are lost elsewhere, and that is precisely what drives her forward.
Tanja doesn’t believe in waiting for inspiration. Her muse is always with her; she just sometimes needs to tune her strings to hear her. When that doesn’t work, she knows it’s time to rest and recharge. She sees inspiration as the ability to be in touch with herself. And when that connection happens, she paints naturally, as if she were breathing. Unlike many artists, she doesn’t need a special place or rituals. It’s enough for her simply to be alive. That contains everything she needs to feel in order to create. Her paintings emerge from the present moment—from the instant when colors merge with emotion. And even though her style has evolved—from fairy-tale characters through feminine moods to landscapes and the silence of nature—she always remains true to herself. Each theme returns in a different way, more deeply, with a new understanding.
Where the Snow Falls by Tanja Frost, 80 cm x 60 cm
Tanja realizes that finding her own style isn’t easy. It wasn’t until years of studying with foreign painters that she found the answer; one Spanish teacher showed her the subtle difference—the imprint that remains in her paintings. There are elements that are uniquely hers, but there are never too many of them. Her style is quiet yet recognizable to those who look with their hearts. She has devoted her entire life to the visual arts, albeit with occasional breaks. She has been actively painting for many years, though she doesn’t keep an exact count. For her, painting isn’t an activity—it’s a way of being. And even though she has sometimes stepped away from her art, she has always returned—to the colors, to herself.
Every painting she creates is the most important thing to her at that moment. She never creates anything that means nothing to her. The paintings in her studio breathe with her; they carry a part of her world within them. And when someone chooses one, a silent agreement is formed—a wordless friendship. Tanja hopes that gallery visitors will take away a sense of lightness, peace, and beauty from her work. She wants people to feel that everything is somehow alive. And even if they forget her name, the main thing is that they simply feel at ease at home. That their home becomes a place of happiness, at least for a moment. But for real.
Sweet Arome Tanja Frost 50 cm x 50 cm
Tanja Frost paints the way she breathes: quietly, authentically, and without the need to show off. Her paintings don’t seek to impress with a big name; they want to stay with you at home, like a sense of calm, lightness, and the quiet feeling that everything is in its right place.
We thank Tanja for her openness, and we hope our readers will find exactly what they’re looking for in her work: a piece of happiness that lasts.

What remains of a dream when we open our eyes in the morning? Perhaps just a feeling, a face, an atmosphere, or a few fragments that don’t quite make sense. Serbian artist Stevo Bajalica returns to precisely these moments in his work. His paintings capture what we may not consciously remember from our dreams, but which still remains somewhere deep inside.
In an interview with Original Gallery, Brno-based painter Evgeniya Zolotareva discusses her journey toward abstraction, color and form, and what she hopes to convey to viewers at her exhibition *Beyond the Boundaries of Form* in downtown Prague.
